The United Nations will be honoring International Day of Persons with Disabilities day on December 3rd of this year. Last year, the day was themed ‘Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities’ with sub-themes that included making cities inclusive and accessible for all, including persons with invisible disabilities in society and development, and improving disability data and statistics. This year’s theme, ‘Achieving 17 goals for the future we want’ focuses on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as how implementing these goals can assist in creating global inclusiveness and equality for those with disabilities. The hope is that by creating a sound plan, raising awareness of the plan and goals set, and discussing these with schools, agencies, government officials, and various leaders – a real difference can be made by 2030.
Sensible Innovations shares this passion as this aligns with our goal of creating a world without limits. Our iOS app, which was launched in 2015, utilizes SmartLandmark™ (iBeacon) technology to assist the visually impaired experience the world around them independently. Through the use of the AWARE Audible Proximity App, users are able to navigate their surroundings and explore spaces like never before. This real-world, real time voice instruction directs those with visual impairments to all the features available around them whether at a school, office building, airport, or local mall – features that they would otherwise never know existed. This is just one way that Sensible Innovations is contributing to the dream of universal access – no matter the person or disability. Each person should be able to experience the world around them and have the option to access all the necessary resources needed to lead a fulfilled life. This means having products that are accessible to and usable by everyone.
